Abstract

The article aims to present the features of overcoming service member’s post-traumatic stress disorder, to analyze the dynamics of traumatic situations, to consider some theoretical issues of psychological assistance to persons with post-traumatic stress disorder, victims of hostilities, as well as to examine methods and stages of work during psychological rehabilitation. Psychological assessment was performed at all three stages.

According to the results of the formative experiment, the introduced psychotherapeutic technologies - short-term psychotherapy, psychotherapy of opportunities, psychotherapy with the imaginative methodology - effectively contribute to overcoming post-traumatic stress disorder, neurotic symptoms, emotional instability and increase adaptability and IDPs and combatants.

Analyzing the effectiveness of the introduced psychotherapeutic technologies, we came to the conclusion that short-term psychotherapy is the most effective and increases adaptability, self-confidence, resistance to stress factors and social influences. Opportunity psychotherapy is effective for emotional disturbances, feelings of guilt and other unconstructive feelings. Psychotherapy with the imaginative methodology successfully copes with trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, by working with the imagination and inner personal resources.

After application of the described psychotherapeutic technologies, IDPs and combatants showed decreased post-traumatic stress disorder, neurotisation, rigidity, irritability, aggressiveness, neuroticism, guilt, reactive aggression, emotional lability, physiological excitability, frustration, depression and increased neuropsychological stability, a tendency to self-control and moral normality.

The study results can be used for practical implementation by psychologists.
