Abstract

The article aims to explore the characteristics of the value and motivational sphere among Ukrainians with varying levels of adaptability who were evacuated to Europe. Migration processes are examined primarily through the lens of migrants’ psychological adaptation to a new cultural environment, with adaptation understood as a transformation in an individual’s psychological traits. This transformation is reflected in shifts in value orientations, role behaviors, and social perspectives.

Within this framework, the article examines certain aspects of psychological readiness for intercultural interaction, the impact of displacement on both group and individual identity, the psychological traits of migrants, and the specifics of providing psychological support. Migration is viewed as a process that includes cultural integration, the evolution of national identity under conditions of intensive intercultural contact, identity formation, and assimilation as a fundamental cultural strategy.

Understanding the psychological foundations of migration contributes to overcoming stereotypical attitudes toward migrants and facilitates the establishment of positive social relationships. Human adaptive capacity is considered a stable feature of both typological and individual personality traits, enabling successful adjustment to the complex demands of life. These capacities manifest at both physiological and psychological levels, guiding individual behavior.

The study finds that migrants from Portugal, in contrast to those from the Netherlands, exhibit a higher level of achievement motivation and greater adaptability. The results of this study have practical implications and can be utilized by psychologists in their work.
