Abstract
Background. The concept of a paradigm occupies a central position in the philosophy of science and the methodology of scientific inquiry. However, its application in legal psychology remains insufficiently conceptualized. The growing interdisciplinary nature of contemporary research necessitates a clarification of the theoretical foundations for using this category, taking into account historical-philosophical, epistemological, and psychological perspectives.
Objective. To determine the theoretical foundations of the concept of paradigm within the context of legal psychology and to substantiate it as an integrated epistemological category.
Methods. A structural-functional method was employed to analyze the principal components of the concept of paradigm. In addition, historiosophical, epistemological, and gnoseological approaches were applied to examine the patterns of scientific knowledge development and the formation of paradigms in legal psychology.
Results. The study demonstrates that the concept of paradigm is intrinsically connected with the development of scientific knowledge, the socio-historical conditions of scientific activity, and Thomas Kuhn’s theory of scientific revolutions. It is shown that the emergence of a scientific paradigm is possible only when new knowledge gains recognition and acceptance within the scientific community. Furthermore, the structure of a paradigm is substantiated as comprising epistemological, gnoseological, and social components that determine the mechanisms underlying the development of legal psychological science.
Conclusions. In legal psychology, a paradigm serves as a tool for the systematization and interpretation of scientific knowledge, facilitating the transition from established theoretical models to new conceptual approaches. Its development is cyclical and depends on the interaction of cognitive, methodological, and social factors. The proposed interpretation expands the theoretical foundations of legal psychology and may serve as a basis for further research into its methodological framework.
Keywords: paradigm; legal psychology; epistemology; gnoseology; scientific revolution; paradigm shift.
