Abstract

The necessity to develop emotional intelligence as an important competence component during socialization is reasoned in this article. The article defines that competence is an individual’ basic quality, is a set of interconnected personal traits which are necessary for qualitative productive engagement. The theoretical outline of the phenomenon “emotional intelligence” (EQ) and different definitions of the concept are presented. The ideas of foreign and national psychologists regarding the EQ term are given, EQ origin and structure is described. The reason for EQ investigation is determined: the correlation between notions “emotional – intellectual”. The positive and negative indicators of emotional intelligence are identified. The main components of emotional intelligence are generalized: an individual’s consciousness of his/her emotions, emotional regulation based on the awareness of these emotions, his/her ability to focus his/her emotions towards the achievement of a particular aim, empathy as the capability to comprehend other people’s emotions, ability to maintain friendly relations with other people.

The methodological toolkit for EQ research is presented.

Various viewpoints of the scientists on the possibilities of emotional intelligence development are summarized (such development is impossible because it is a relatively steady human peculiarity; such development is possible with trainings, exercises, therapy). The possibility of EQ development in ontogeny is substantiated if relevant conditions exist (for example, students of new Ukrainian school).  The developed algorithm of systematic work on EQ advancement consists of the following stages: introducing the participants of the educational process to theoretical knowledge about the emotional sphere (psycho-education); preparation of guidelines for the systemic formation of children’s, parents’ and teachers' emotional competence, emotional mindset, emotional memory; EQ diagnosing at the participants of the educational process; studying of existing emotional disorders; implementation into educational work of exercises, trainings, master classes in emotional intelligence developing; assessment and correction of received results.

The emotional intelligence formation determinants at the primary school age are established. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the statistics on primary schoolchildren’s emotional intelligence peculiarities is given.
