The article describes the influence of parent-child relationships on adult women’s psychological well-being and behavior. The empirical study was done with a sample of 90 respondents aged 26-55 years, brought up in complete families, who lived separately from their parents and had their own families; the study results are presented. For a retrospective analysis of parental behavior, a modified version of Adolescents' Report of Parental Behavior Inventory (ADOR) was used to evaluate five universal upbringing factors: unconditional acceptance - emotional rejection of a child, psychological control - autonomy, and also the sequence of upbringing strategies. The correlations of these parameters with several indicators characterizing adult women’s psychological well-being, psychological hardiness, coping strategies, styles of interpersonal interactions and professional self-realization were analyzed. A mother’s influence on her daughters’ behavior can be traced far beyond childhood. At the same time, fathers’ upbringing tactics did not show significant correlations with the measured indicators. Women’s psychological problems are identified, which are the long-term consequences of early maternal influence. Mothers’ inadequate behavior (authoritarianism, hostility, inconsistency) causes at their daughters the loss of the ability to manage the circumstances of their own life, leads to the formation of confrontationally suspicious or dependent behavior. Inconsistencies in mothers’ upbringing behavior have the most devastating long-term consequences.

To explain the results, Teutsch IDEAL (individualized-directive-explanatory-action-log) Method was used; its prognostic and correctional capabilities overcoming the negative effects of parenting were demonstrated. Mothers’ influence was considered in the context of the formation of their daughters’ conditioned reactions, which led to the formation of behavioral patterns complementary to maternal models. The article show how interpersonal (horizontal) and intergenerational (vertical) consolidation of dysfunctional behavioral models take place.
