Abstract

The foundations for singling out of the identification styles as a motivational and intra-subjective process of commonality achievement are considered and empirical study of the styles is described in the article.

The foundations for the identification styles were determined and the examined styles were distinguished depending on the characteristics of an identified object that exists as an image. The article substantiates theoretically the dependence of the individual-style differences from a pole that is significant for the individual. In particular, if the pole of “an image of the world” is significant, then the image constitution processes are categorization, attribution, phenomenologization. On the contrary, since the pole of “I-space” is necessary and significant for identification, then the image constitution processes serve also as alternative processes of identification. Therefore, they appear as the various stylistic bases of identification; thus, identification with the specific means objectification, identification with the general means idealization, identification with a single means an individual’s.

The characteristics of objects and their interrelations within the structure of an image of the world are the foundations for distinguishing the styles of identification. In particular, the idea on belonging was substantiated: the characteristics of the specific belong to objects of the perceptual level; the characteristics of the general belong to objects of the semantic level; the characteristics of the single belong to objects of the core level.

The identification styles were examined in the context of motivational aspects of activities. In particular, possibility to capture at least five heterogeneous informative ideas within the concept of motivation and three informative ideas within the concept of a motive were shown. One of the ideas on motivation was defined as incorporation of a motive into a broader active process, for which the motive performed a motivational function. The article substantiated that the terms of interpretation and identification could be brought under to this definition. The difference between interpretation and identification as motivational processes was disclosed. In particular, it was assumed that identification was deployed according to the principle of instantaneous capture (formation) of a link, while the interpretation, on the contrary, was based on sequential (algorithmic) link formation.

The model of an empirical research of the commonality is presented, as well as the corresponding research methodical toolkit.

The performed empirical verification of theoretically substantiated assumptions showed the existing influence of some (psychosemantic) characteristics of an image on the factors (values) of motivational process. These results make it a promising further elaboration of the influence of identification styles on the motivational aspects of activities. In particular, in terms of how such image characteristics as specific-general-single determine the specificity and nature of this influence.
