The path of inner work on the people’s own psychological problems is difficult and painful, but it is the only way of renewal. The emphasis is on the negative psychological characteristics of the Ukrainian people: individualism; not submission; envy; not solidarity; apathy; the advantage of one’s own interests over the common ones; emotionality; criticism, consumer psychology, etc.

Vikonskaya’s analysis reveals the deep foundations of the essence of the psyche of the Ukrainian people. Individualism, anarchist tendencies were formed under the influence of the boundless expanses of the steppe and are compensation for the long enslavement of other peoples. Power is perceived by Ukrainians with distrust, as something hostile and threatening, since the peasant has always experienced harassment from the pan. The materialism of peasant life, dependence on nature and one’s own labor gave rise to apoliticality, the desire to live one’s own life and indifference to common actions.

Personal egoism is the result of long-term captivity, since the Ukrainian people, without their own state, were deprived of the skills for long-term unification, joint protection around the state ideology. For Ukrainians, the organization served as a voluntary association, which everyone could leave at their own discretion. A person is independent and independent in choosing his behavior and establishing relations with a particular community.

The strong in spirit will overcome the path and reach the finish line - a European state where the law is above all. The weak will fall in a cruel world. We prove by deeds on the battlefield that we belong to the mighty of this world. Too high a price has been paid for the right to be called a Ukrainian. We must work hard to overcome the Ukrainian defective psychology.

Only constructive criticism will be the key to overcoming the ressentiment in the psychology of Ukrainians, which hinders the consolidation and implementation of the idea of Ukraine’s revival and its entry into the European family.

}, number={4}, journal={PSYCHOLOGICAL JOURNAL}, author={Masliuk, Andrii and Yevchenko, Iryna}, year={2022}, month={Nov.}, pages={38–50} }
